Venus Bay and surrounding areas are a Mecca for fishers, offering boat,
jetty and beach fishing.
Boat fishing inside the sheltered waters of Venus Bay offers the angler
- King George Whiting
- Tommies
- Garfish
- Salmon Trout
- Flathead
- Trevally
Boat fishing outside the bay is available to larger boats. Species caught
outside include:
- Thumper sized King George Whiting
- Snapper
- Trevally
- Shark
Salmon can be caught beach fishing from surf beaches, like nearby Mt Camel Beach.

Scenic Tours and Walks
Local Tours
Spectacular views of the Great Australian Bight are available on the South Head Walk and the Cliff Top tour. Both are within close walking distance from the Caravan Park.

Tours to the South
Mt Camel
About 8 km drive south of Venus Bay, access to Mt Camel beach is via a short walk. Anglers regularly catch good sized salmon from this beach.
Talia Beach and Talia Caves
Talia Beach is pristine. On a windy day, the surf and spray is nothing short of spectacular. There is a monument at the north end of the beach to a Nurse who fell from the cliffs into the ocean and was never recovered.

There are a number of caves and other formations in the limestone cliffs. Including "The Woolshed" and "The Tub".

Exploring to the north of Venus bay provides more superb coastal scenery and opportunities to observe various marine and land based wildlife.
Coastal Scenery
Names like Sceale Bay, "The Granites", "Smooth Pool" give some indication of the type of scenery that is likely to be encountered on a trip from Streaky Bay back
to Venus Bay
Point Labatt Sea Lion Colony
Point Labatt has the only mainland sea lion colony and sea lions can be observed warming themselves after swimming and fishing.
Baird Bay
Baird Bay is another protected bay and is a very good site for boat fishing. Fishing charters and ocean tours can be booked at Baird Bay. Take the opportunity to swim with sea lions and dolphins.

Murphy's Haystacks
Murphy's Haystacks are a must-see. They are a series of granite pillars and boulders that tower above the surrounding soil. They are situated on the top of an isolated hill which provides superb view of the surounding counryside - and gives a sense of the vastness of Australia. Check out the website at

Venus Bay Conservation Park
The park entry is just north of Port Kenny and is accessablt to 4WD vehicles.

Golf
There is a 9 hole golf course on the main highway near Port Kenny. The 'greens' could be a challenge to city slickers who are used to manicured grass.
